An office based system for delivery of infusion therapy, Intravene offers outpatients the advantage of convenient, close to home care. Our team of highly skilled and caring professionals includes pharmacists, nurses and physicians who are committed to providing the highest level of intravenous care available.

Intravene has been serving patients in Lynchburg since 1989. We are a division of Medical Associates of Central Virginia, one of the areas largest and most respected medical practices.

Answers to the most frequently asked
questions about Intravene.

  Who administers the therapy?  
A professional staff of pharmacists supervise the preparation of  medications. Experienced nurses administer your infusion therapy.

The Intravene staff is accessible and on call for patients 24 hours a day.

 
  How are patients accepted into the Intravene  program?  
Patients are referred by their personal physician. The Intravene  staff works with your physician to tailor the best course of therapy for you. We prepare and administer your medication at the Intravene facility or, if appropriate, in your home.
 
  What will I need to bring on my first visit?  
You will need to bring a list of medications you are currently taking and your health insurance information (including insurance cards).
 
  How long does infusion therapy last?  
The length of time for therapy is determined by the medication you are taking. Most therapies take one to three hours. We do our best to make your visit as comfortable and as short as possible.
 
  Do all medications have to be infused in the office?  
No. Some medications may be given at home. Intravene's staff will help determine where you get your medicine based on the medication needed and your insurance coverage.
 
  Will my insurance pay for infusion therapy?  
Most services are covered by health insurance policies. Intravene will contact your health insurance provider and discuss your benefits with you so that you can make decisions about your therapy.
 
  What if there is a problem or emergency?  
An Intravene nurse, pharmacist and physician are on call to serve you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
